Introductory Message

Dear ICU Professionals,

Healthcare's climate footprint accounts for 5% of net global carbon emissions, while Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are important consumers of material and energy resources. Therefore, the need for all ICU workers to work collectively towards sustainable critical care is imperative.

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) prioritises environmental sustainability in research, education, practice and policymaking. The newly established ESICM Task Force on Environmental Sustainability, led by Jan De Waele, will announce a series of initiatives.

This short survey aims to capture your views on sustainable critical care in your setting. The results from the survey will inform further phases of the ESICM: Environmental Sustainability in ICU.

Many thanks for your contribution.

Prof Elie AZOULAY
ESICM President

Prof Jan DE WAELE
ESICM President-elect, on behalf of the Task Force on Environmental Sustainability
